The Benefits of Medical Marijuana For Chronic Pain

Welcome to thegreengold.org, the cannabis for everyone site, where we provide a judgment free zone to learn and talk all about cannabis. Today I am talking about the benefits of medical marijuana for chronic pain. As always this is not medical advice and is written for educational purposes only. If you read my about Paige then you know that I began my journey with cannabis through looking for pain relief.

I had tried marijuana in recreational settings before but I had no idea then the benefits it could actually have. I suffered yet another knee injury when I was 25 and that is the injury that seemed to cause me to go downhill in a sense. This injury caused me all sorts of other pain in my other leg as well due to past football and other related injuries. Since then, I have found that when I do physical things I really pay for them. This was until I found medical marijuana. I feel that whether you have a medical card or live in a state that allows you to buy it without one, that it is a good idea to learn about the medical benefits of marijuana.

Chances are you have been using marijuana completely wrong the whole time. There is probably a better strain or method of consumption out there for you. When you learn about the medical benefits, then you can manipulate them in your favor.

Why marijuana for pain?

I think the obvious answer here is because the right strains consumed the right way could be the most effective form of pain relief without all the side effect that most other pain killers have. It doesn’t have any addictive properties, sure you have to be careful because just like something as simple as TV you can create a dependency for it. I personally feel like this is the most effective and safest form of pain relief. Obviously this is just my opinion based off of results I’ve had in my personal experiences. If you have tried cannabis for pain relief and it didn’t work, then chances are you didn’t try the right strain.

You may have even consumed it wrong. As I stated in my earlier article “Marijuana for Beginners“, everybody’s cannabinoid receptors are different. This means that one person could smoke a strain that is supposed to help with pain and receive relief, while another person could smoke the same strain and find little to no relief. However, if the second person tried consuming and edible or tincture made with the same strain, they may find the same pain relief if not better relief then the person that smoked it.

The best form of consumption for pain.

I am both people in the example above. I have found relief in both smoking cannabis and ingesting it. In my opinion the most effective form for pain is to ingest it. This is so simple these days, especially if you have access to a dispensary.

You can eat it in many forms from cookies to even chips and nuts. They have tasty syrups that you can add to a beverage as well as tinctures that you can to add to a beverage as well or just drop under your tongue.

Remember when you ingest cannabis it can take an hour and even longer sometimes until you feel the effects, so take it slow and one dose at a time. You can refer to “Marijuana for Beginners” to learn about all the different ways to consume cannabis to help you best decide which form is best for you.

How does marijuana help with pain.

It’s important to know how things work so that you can use them correctly. Most the time when a tool doesn’t work it’s because of user error due to lack of knowledge. The better you know how something works the better you can use. This is why urge you to fallow my website and keep learning.

As I discussed in “Marijuana for Beginners” cannabis has terpenes. Cannabis is not the only plant that has terpenes. However, marijuana terpenes are special in the medical benefits that they offer. The terpenes combine with the other cannabinoids to help the autoimmune response that causes inflammation and therefore reduce the pain associate with this response.

The best strains for pain.

There are hundreds of strains that could help you with pain. So, when looking at a specific strain I want you to look for a couple things. First you want to look for an indica. While some sativas can definitely help with pain and some may prefer a sativa, for beginners a sativa is not as likely to help with pain. This is because sativas tend to present more in the cerebral of your brain therefor being better mood enhancers then pain relievers. Indicas tend to present more in the body therefore making them better for pain relief. Obviously the right hybrid could benefit you as well. For more help to decide between indica, sativa or hybrid read my article “What is Indica and Sativa?“.

Next you want to look to make sure it has the right terpene or terpenes in it. These terpenes are as fallows.

Caryophyllene– This Is probably the top terpene when it comes to pain. This is the best terpene for pain overall.

Limonene– This is another fantastic terpene for pain. This one could be good if you want pain relief with a sense or energy.

Pinene– This one is for my migraine people, this one has been found to significantly reduce neuropathic pain.

Hopefully this helped.

So whether you are having migraines or knee pain there is more then likely a strain out there for you. You can read my future article “The best Medical Marijuana for Chronic Pain.” to learn more about which strains I prefer to use for pain and why. Remember just because you have tried one strain and one form of consumption doesn’t mean a different strain or simply a different form of consumption could change your life. So take it slow and keep learning it’s the best thing you can do.

  1. As someone who enjoys cannabis recreationally, I’ve personally experienced some of the benefits discussed here, especially in terms of relaxation and easing minor aches. It’s interesting to see how targeted use, particularly with medical marijuana, can offer such significant relief for chronic pain. The distinction between strains and the emphasis on terpenes like Caryophyllene and Limonene highlight the complexity and potential of cannabis beyond just a recreational substance. This insight prompts me to consider more about the specific strains I choose and their potential benefits. How do you recommend navigating the vast selection of strains to find what works best for individual needs, especially for newcomers? And are there particular consumption methods that enhance the pain-relieving properties of cannabis without overwhelming those who might be new to its use?

  2. Thanks for sharing this information. I had no idea there are different strains and that benefits range from individual to individual. I wonder if the ingestible would work on my chronic back pain. I have been in pain for decades and am ready to try anything except surgery. Does the dispensary ingestible give you the same high as recreational smoking? I don’t want that fog head.

  3. Hey thanks for this post!
I found your post very insightful and definitely learned quite a lot as well as answered a few questions I had on cannabis being used for medical reason. I like how you went as far as to explain how this plant can help with calming pain!

To read your personal story shows how cannabis can actually work, this should be shared out to provide knowledge to those who aren’t aware of the benefits of this super plant!

Thanks again and have a great day!
