Welcome to thegreengold.org, the cannabis for everyone site, where we provide a judgment free zone to learn and talk all about cannabis. Today I am talking about CBD Oil. As always, this is not medical advice, and is written for educational purposes only. More than likely, you have heard about CBD. Whether on a sign on the side of the road, or by word of mouth. What is CBD oil for?
If you read my previous article “ marijuana for beginners“, then you remember, I talked about tinctures. CBD oil is a lot like those. You can drop it under your tongue, mix it with a beverage, and some even use it topically. Before we get further into that, let’s understand what CBD is.
What is CBD?
CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant. In this case, the cannabis plant has been bred to produce larger amounts of CBD than THC. Sometimes more than 10:1. So, if you consume CBD rich cannabis, what happens?
Well, unlike THC rich cannabis, it does not give you the same cerebral effects. In more common terms, it doesn’t get you “high”. This is a word that I don’t like to use, even for THC rich cannabis. Only, because it is way more than just a “high”, but that’s a discussion for another article. So, back to CBD. It can help with many things from mood to pain.
It does this by delivering the same terpenes that are found in THC rich cannabis, without the psychoactive affects of THC. So, if you are looking to enjoy some of the medicinal benefits of cannabis, but don’t like the cerebral effects of THC, then CBD rich cannabis may be for you.
Something Id also like to note here, is a lot of CBD products these days have a legal form of THC in it. When consumed for the first time, they can cause the same cerebral effects as THC rich cannabis. Usually this is a one time thing, and then it doesn’t happen upon consuming the second or third time. In this case, the package will say “Delta 8” or “Delta 8 THC”, somewhere on the package. If you want to avoid any cerebral affects, then ask for CBD or hemp, that doesn’t have Delta 8 THC in it. If the packaging doesn’t say Delta 8, or have a little delta sign with an 8, then it is just regular CBD.
Why CBD Oil?
You may be asking yourself, what are the benefits of using CBD oil? For starters, you don’t have to smoke it. I find, that the same people that don’t like the cerebral effects of marijuana, typically don’t like smoking either. So the good news is, with CBD oil you don’t have to. As I stated earlier, you can use CBD oils in a few different ways. That makes it easy to use without having to smoke or vape anything.
However, If you do enjoy smoking or vaping, these are the most direct and effective forms of delivery for any kind of cannabis. In a future article, we will explore smoking cannabis and the pros and cons of doing so. For now, let’s discuss the different ways to use CBD oil.
The ways to use CBD oil.
There are a few different ways to use CBD oil.
Orally: This is the most direct and fastest acting way to use CBD oil. You simply take the oil dropper and you put one to two drops under your tongue and let it sit without swallowing for 30-60 seconds. You should notice the effects in 5 minutes or less. If you don’t feel it, then what I’d do is wait 10-15 more minutes and then dose again. It is really fast acting, the second fastest acting to actually smoking it. So, chances are if you aren’t feeling anything you just need a little more.
Mixed with a beverage: So, as far as CBD oil goes, when you mix it with a beverage, you have effectively made a CBD edible. I guess it would be called a drinkable… Anyways, it works the same as an edible. If you decide to use this method you have to give it a little more time in between dosing to feel the affects. Just like I discussed in my article “ Marijauna For Beginners“, Edibles, or in this case drinkables, take about 30-60 minutes to take effect.
Topically: This form is used for pain, as well as, skin care. Some strongly believe in the abilities of CBD to help with your skin. Personally, I have not tried it for this, but one thing I can say is, I haven’t found anything that shows or says it is bad for your skin. I have had people close to me tell me how it helps for pain topically. Specifically joint pain. I feel like, it’s a good alternative to a lot of those chemical ridden, stinky, topicals for pain.
What can CBD help you with?
CBD can help you with some of the medical problems already discussed above. Let’s get a little deeper into the benefits of CBD. So, through dropping CBD oil under your tongue or mixing it in a beverage, you are going to receive all the benefits of the CBD. These include pain and mental relief. If you need something to help brighten your mood, then the right CBD oil tincture could be what you need. When looking for a mood brightener, look for a sativa dominant strain. For now, whoever you are buying CBD from, will know what that means. However, you can read my next article to learn all about the different strains of marijuana, sativa vs indica, and all the different benefits they have.
If you are looking simply for pain relief and don’t like the idea of consuming, then you can use it topically. This form will not help you mentally, other than the mental relief that comes with pain relief.
Hopefully this helped.
As always, I hope this was helpful for you on your journey to learn more about cannabis. If you are someone that is in pain, mental despair, or just have trouble getting your brain moving, then CBD may be the right thing for you. Whether you use it in oil form, or other forms, it can have benefits. However, you have to keep an open mind, because it won’t just hit you like THC rich cannabis does. You may have to give it a couple tries to really notice the affects. Like I said, in my previous article “Marijuana for beginners“, everybody’s cannabinoid receptors are different. This affects how you receive CBD as well as THC. So, just take it slow and reep the benefits!
If you have any questions about CBD oil, any other CBD, or cannabis related products, leave me a comment, and I will gladly help you out!
